Siliconian Showdown is a battle simulator created to replicate the combat mechanics of Nanovor, an MMO created and developed by Smith & Tinker, which ran from 2009 to 2010. Nanovor was a turn-based game where players could build their swarms (teams) and battle against opponents to earn NMP, or Nanovor Master Points, and improve their skills. Players collected Nanovor through achievements, trading, or purchasing Nanovor packs through the in-game store. These Nanovor could be evolved into more powerful forms, acquiring new movesets and improved stats in the process.
This simulator allows you to use every Nanovor released right away, in a sort of sandbox-style mode where you can either play solo against a programmed AI, play online against random opponents, or play in custom games with friends. It makes use of assets from the original game, including character animatons, soundtracks, stat icons, and more. All of the stats, attacks, and descriptions are taken directly from the original game files as well, so that the simulator can allow you to play exactly the same way you would have over a decade ago in the original game.
It should be noted, that Siliconian Showdown in no way is looking to profit from this, it is merely a passion project created for the community. It does not claim to own any of the assets created by Smith & Tinker, and comes as-is.
Our mission is to become the melting pot for all things Nanovor. We want to foster an inclusive, collaborative environment to not only reignite the passion we all had for the game many moons ago, but improve on the areas of opportunity. We want to shape Nanovor not into what it was, but what it could have been.
Siliconian Showdown is a full-stack web application written using Python as the backend, and React as the frontend. There is a basic MongoDB database implemented which only keeps track of credentials, fanovor, and custom settings attached to each respective username. In the future, this database would likely be used to create a REST API, as well as some sort of leaderboard system where players could earn points and rise to the top. The entire project is hosted on a remote Linode VPS, which runs an NGINX web-server that serves the files that create the pages you see on this website. The website was secured as HTTPS using the open-source software Certbot by Let's Encrypt, and all socket connections to the backend are protected by a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
Siliconian Showdown was created and is managed by Eli J., known as Fel within the community. He is a Software Engineer and Product Manager who has previously worked at one of the largest investment management firms in the world.
Additionally, since launching in July 2021, the Siliconian Showdown team has grown.
